Working pattern
Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our London office. Colleagues with disabilities can be supported with workplace adjustments including hybrid working expectations in line with our Flexibility Works policy. About this opportunity This is a senior engineering and delivery leadership role focused on the Unisys mainframe environments supporting some of Lloyds Banking Group’s most important banking services. You’ll join the Enterprise Lab within Core Infrastructure, reporting to the Engineering
Lead. You’ll lead the engineering teams responsible for building, running, protecting and modernising our Unisys infrastructure. These are mission-critical environments that process high-value customer transactions and must operate securely, reliably and resiliently within a highly regulated organisation. The role therefore requires more than general infrastructure leadership. We’re looking for someone who understands the distinctive operational, engineering and lifecycle challenges associated with mainframe platforms and the specialist teams that support them.
We're looking for someone to lead, inspire and develop a team of infrastructure engineers. You'll drive a strategic effort to improve the agility, pace of operations and cost, of our Lab for LBG. The services you'll help lead, develop, and operate are at the core of our infrastructure and require high quality while moving fast to keep up with our customers' needs. This is an exciting time to join the team!
What you’ll be doing
- Lead, inspire and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for Lloyds Banking Group’s mainframe infrastructure and associated runtime services.
- Own the technical integrity, availability, resilience, recoverability and security of the Unisys platforms within your scope.
- Maintain effective oversight of production service performance, operational risks, vulnerabilities, capacity, software currency, hardware lifecycle and technical debt.
- Lead complex infrastructure change, including hardware refreshes, software upgrades, resilience improvements, security remediation, service transitions and platform decommissioning.
- Ensure changes are appropriately designed, tested, risk-assessed and governed, with robust implementation, recovery and stakeholder-communication plans.
- Act as a senior escalation point during major incidents, bringing together engineering teams, application owners, service management, suppliers and senior stakeholders to restore service and address root causes.
- Strengthen incident, problem and change-management practices, ensuring that learning is converted into preventative action, improved automation, stronger controls and more resilient services.
- Work closely with Unisys and other strategic technology suppliers, providing effective oversight of service performance, technical support, commercial commitments, risks and improvement plans.
- Drive automation and operational simplification across platform engineering activity.
- Build sustainable engineering capability through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, knowledge capture and structured development pathways for engineers.
